The Garden of Artificial Delights. 2014

This project begins from a study of a Japanese concept of the four stages of nature: wilderness, agriculture, landscaped gardens, and synthetic representations of nature. Inspired by the arrangement and architectural qualities of ancient stroll gardens and the composition Japanese landscape prints, the Garden exists only through the lenses of the camera phone. Viewed through the magician’s black box, the miniature landscape inside creates five scenes incorporating the idealised elements of nature – snow, flowers, fog, and the moon. The construct is take on DIY desktop Zen gardens.
